Vendors at PorcFest have been generally accepting of alternative currencies, especially sound ones using or backed with precious metals. But what can we do to not only improve acceptance, but get them to start listing their prices in other currencies.
In particular, it would be good to get vendors at least posting prices in amounts of silver. Older dimes are 2.25 grams, so vendors could treat them as 2 or 2.5 grams, and prices could be listed in grams of silver. At current spot prices, a silver dime is about $2.5 and Shire Silver cards are about $1/half gram while a whole ounce is around $34 - making grams a more useful measure for the kinds of deals being made at PorcFest. Even a quarter ounce of silver is likely to be too large.
One idea being seriously considered is to offer cheap or even free price list printing with the condition being that prices in silver be on the list.
I'm also considering giving a discount for pre-orders of Shire Silver, with delivery at PorcFest, as long as the orders are in at leasst a month before PF.
Any other ideas?
