Frequently Asked Questions

That depends on the context of the usage of the term. We use the term "currency" in the general sense of "something that is used as a medium of exchange". An online dictionary defines "currency" as:

cur·ren·cy

  1. something that is used as a medium of exchange; money.
  2. general acceptance; prevalence; vogue.
  3. a time or period during which something is widely accepted and circulated.
  4. the fact or quality of being widely accepted and circulated from person to person.
  5. circulation, as of coin.

Current Money, however, is apparently a term of art used by the government to denote a currency that is also legal tender. Legal tender laws are used when the government wants to ensure usage of an inferior currency. Shire silver is a superior currency and does not need the protection of legal tender laws. Shire silver is not, and we do not intend it to be, current money.
