That depends on the context of the usage of the term. We use the term "currency" in the general sense of "something that is used as a medium of exchange". An online dictionary defines "currency" as:
cur·ren·cy
- something that is used as a medium of exchange; money.
- general acceptance; prevalence; vogue.
- a time or period during which something is widely accepted and circulated.
- the fact or quality of being widely accepted and circulated from person to person.
- circulation, as of coin.
Current Money, however, is apparently a term of art used by the government to denote a currency that is also legal tender. Legal tender laws are used when the government wants to ensure usage of an inferior currency. Shire silver is a superior currency and does not need the protection of legal tender laws. Shire silver is not, and we do not intend it to be, current money.
